THE section of Madang Road next to the Xintiandi area has attracted plenty of arrivals in the past couple of weeks. Prestigious American jeweler Harry Winston's flagship store officially opened at the corner of Madang Road and Xingye Road last Friday, attracting Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester, stars of American teen drama "Gossip Girl."
French children's fashion and accessories brand Jacadi also opened its doors last week, adding a touch of European elegance to the area. Local lifestyle concept boutique Oshadai has just made its debut next to Jacadi, offering creative products with modern Chinese aesthetics. And Shanghai Trio, another well-known lifestyle brand, moved its shop from Xingye Road to inside Xintiandi Style. Madang Road is truly showing its diversity with a good mix of luxury, fashion, lifestyle and eateries. She started the brand three years ago, creating household items and fashion accessories using the best natural materials - including cotton, hemp, silk and cashmere. B! ut the n ew concept boutique offers more than accessories. Dai constantly challenges herself on creativity, so the new range is expanded to include furniture, wooden items, and ceramics.
New lines share the same philosophy as Dai's accessories: cozy, natural and contemporary. She focuses on the revival of modern Chinese aesthetics, defined by rich colors, quality natural materials and rich detail. Dai presents two collections every year, with light green, beige, purple and orange, characterizing the current range. Prices span 80 yuan for a ceramic coffee cup to 25,000 yuan for a three-seat sofa. The unique, hand-made ceramic cups and plates that Dai has made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, are among the highlights. It is a chic outdoor lounge and bar that looks set to become the city's latest hot spot as summer approaches. Open from lunchtime till midnight, XTD elevated offers the perfect location for a quick business power lunch with a special "Roast of the Day" menu for just 138 yuan (US$21.90) per person. This includes a generous selection of side dishes and a selected roast item for that day. The outdoor space offers relaxing dining options, including the a-la-carte menu created by the hotel's executive chef, Albert Servalls. Fresh charcoal-grilled seafood and meat dishes - grilled by chefs before waiting diners - are among highlights. The dinner costs around 250 yuan to 300 yuan per person. On Sundays, the restaurant and lounge offers a "Lazy Sunday" brunch with a charcoal-grilled menu, as well as specialty pancake and egg options, all complemented by free-flow champagnes, wines and signature cocktails.
