Mr Right is almost always 22 mates away!
If the spoiled princess from The Frog Prince were to live in our times, she would have had it really bad. Because, while she had to kiss only one slimy toad to find her Prince Charming, were she around today, she would've had to do her fair share of frog kissing before arriving upon Mr Right. Such seem to be the times as a new study claims that the average woman will kiss 22 men before meeting her knight in shining armour.
And that's not all! She would've also have to have been in four long-term relationships and had her heart broken five times before meeting 'the one'. The road to finding true love will also include six bad dates, six one-night stands and be cheated on four times.
Twenty one-year-old student Ashwini K shrugs, "While not every girl necessarily goes through this, I must admit girls my age have accepted that they're not going to find their princes by fluke. There's a lot of looking, searching and sifting...and kissing to be done." However, entrepreneur Yashi Jain opines, "Putting numbers to romance is extremely silly. Finding true love and how long you take to find it is a mixture of luck and being at the right place, at the right time. Love at first sight exists as much as 'kiss-and-see'. Numbers and figures find no place in the romance department."
The study was done by a dating site from the West, but in our own social climes, where the concept of dating is just about settling in, will this study find any resonance? Interior decorator Rathi Raman is of the opinion that women in Chennai are still inclined to be more romantic and less practical. She elaborates, "Meet five, date four, love three, ditch two and then marry one such things don't happen here. Girls here still believe in things like 'love at first sight' and 'sparks flying'."
Software professional Poorna Vijay, on the other hand, believes that at a time when even 24 hours a day don't seem to be enough, kissing 22 men would have to be a rather gargantuan task. "We have n! o time t o complete our daily chores after work, where is the question of meeting 22 men, investing in four long-term relationships and getting our heart broken five times?" she asks incredulously.
The men seem to be divided when it comes to views on this study. "You know 'the one' when you see the person, interact with the person," says Srivatsan R, HR professional, "So, there's no way you actually need to kiss 22 men before figuring that out! According to this study, the average woman is just looking for excuses to delay finding the one. She's being shrewd and practical."
Well, practicality might be one thing, but at the end of the day, the study has a fairytale ending too, claiming that a woman knows she's found her Mr Right within four weeks of meeting him.
Finding Mr Right
- Decide on what kind of a guy you want; his personality, characteristics, values, etc.
- Don't go by face value. Physical chemistry will only take you that far. - Honesty is the most important factor in any relationship. Be in it only if your heart is in it.
- Patience is a virtue especially in building relationships.
