Boy, 7, Drives Car at 50 MPH to Get to Dad's House

Baby, you can drive my car took on new meaning this week when a 7-year-old took his stepfather's Pontiac Sunfire for a 20-mile ride.

MSNBC reports the Michigan boy was barefoot and wearing his pjs when he attempted to drive to his dad's house, sometimes reaching 50 mph speeds. No one was hurt.

"He was crying and just kept saying he wanted to go to his dad's," Caseville Police Chief Jamie Learman tells the network. "That was pretty much it. He just wanted to go to his dad's."

The boy had been staying with his mother, who was lying down after having worked the night shift and didn't realize her son had taken off, according to MSNBC. Police had been alerted by a 911 call that a "very young driver" had been spotted on the road.

Learman tells the network police managed to box the boy in and he eventually stopped.

Prosecutors and officials from child welfare are reviewing the case, according to MSNBC.

"I'm just glad he didn't get hurt, and no one else got hurt," Learman tells the network. "I can just imagine the stop signs and other things he didn't stop for. I'm just assuming a 7-year-old didn't follow the traffic laws."
