BAFTA TV Awards 2011: The Only Way Is Essex girls lead the glamour
It was one of the most highly-anticipated events of the year, with the biggest names from the television industry attending.
But at the Philips Bafta Television Awards it wasn't a TV veteran who stole the show but a group of relative newcomers - the girls from The Only Way Is Essex.
Amy Childs, Lauren Goodger, Sam Faiers and Lydia Bright led the glamour last night as they arrived for the annual ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
Essex girls leading the way: The Only Way Is Essex stars (left to right) Amy Childs, Lauren Goodger, Lydia Bright and Sam Faiers lead the glamour at the Bafta Television Awards
Stealing the show: But it was Amy Childs who stands out from the crowd in her Pia Michi gold gown
And it seems that the girls had possibly co-ordinated their outfits, as they all chose sparkly metallic numbers to pose on the red carpet.
But it was redhead Amy Childs who managed to hog the limelight, perhaps for the wrong reasons, as she pulled out all the stops in her Pia Michi strapless gold dress.
Metallic: Sam Faiers looks stunning in her Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress while Lydia Bright wears a grey flowered Dynasty gown and Lauren Goodger chooses sparkly everything in Scala
Date night: Lauren Goodger with fianc Mark Wright while Sam Faiers arrives with her boyfriend Joey Essex
The elaborate gown featured a beaded bodice and ruched gold skirt, complete with a tulle underskirt, giving Childs a strong resemblance to Belle from Disney's Beauty And The Beast.
However, the rest of the TOWIE girls also went all out with their red-carpet outfits.
Sheer genius? Daisy Lowe leaves little to the imagination in her sheer black Craig Lawrence gown
Loved-up: Daisy with boyfriend Matt Smith, who was nominated for the best actor award
While Faiers shone in a shimmery white and black Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress, Bright wore a pretty metallicgrey flowered Dynasty dress.
And Goodger looked like the cat that got the cream in a strappy silver Scala dress and matching sparkly shoes as she posed with fianc Mark Wright.
In the black: Cat Deeley wows in a black lace Christian Dior gown, with her hair swept into a chic up 'do
Whoops! Louise Redknapp in Stella McCartney and Lenora Crichlow in a very similar black plunging jumpsuit
The TOWIE boys also looked smart for the event, with Wright opting for a black tuxedo and undone bowtie, and Joey Essex looking dapper in a grey three-piece suit as he posed with girlfriend Faiers.
The Only Way Is Essex was just one of the shows up for the Bafta YouTube Audience Award at the ceremony, sponsored by Evian.
Sisterly love: Kara Tointon arrives at the ceremony with her younger sister Hannah
Differing style: Hannah opts for sexy leopard-print Valentino while Kara looks more subtle in her pale pink Grecian Temperley gown
The ITV2 reality show follows the lives of a group of perma-tanned Essex residents who have brought vajazzles and phrases such as 'well jel' and 'reem' to the masses.
The hit show, which is set up in part, has drawn audiences of nearly one million viewers in the second series which saw long-time lothario Wright ask his on-off girlfriend Goodger to marry him.
Glamour girls: (Left to right) Zoe Ball in Roland Mouret, Michelle Collins in Nadine Merabi and Hayley Atwell in Antonio Berardi
Dressed to impress: The One Show star Alex Jones in Versace, and actress Amanda Burton also goes for black
Pale and interesting: (Left to right) Sheridan Smith in Ermanno Scervino, Amy Nuttall in BIBA and Victoria Pendleton in Stella McCartney. The trio all stuck to summery pale shades on the red carpet
And it seems the programme's popularity it set to continue as TOWIE beat Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Miranda and The Killing to take home the YouTube Audience Award.
Other stars to cause a stir on the red carpet with their gowns included Daisy Lowe, in a sheer black Craig Lawrence gown, and Cat Deeley, who also went for black in a lace Dior dress.
Cuddling up: Paddy McGuinness and fiance Christine Martin pose up, while Jessie Wallace, wearing a vintage black dress, arrives with her fianc Vincent Morse
Lighting it upin brights: (Left to right) Gillian Anderson in vintage Dior, Vicky McClure in Alberta Ferretti and Tracey Emin in Vivienne Westwood all opt for pink or red for the red carpet
Who have you got with you? Catherine Tate in Jigsaw and a young actress friend, and Big Fat Gypsy Weddings stars Paddy and Roseanne Doherty
Louise Redknapp also opted for black, but may have felt slightly awkward by the fact that Being Human star Leonora Crichlow arrived in a very similar outfit.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom in the fashion sense, as bright outfits came from stars such as Gillian Anderson, in bright pink, and Hannah Tointon, in a leopard-print gown.
Smiles all round: Harry Hill and Louie Spence joke around with photographers outside the event
Here come the boys: Graham Norton, who hosts the awards, celebrity ha! irdresse r James Brown and musician Carl Barat
