Royal Wedding 2011: Kate Middleton's mother Carole axes hatmaker a week before

Add to My Stories Carole Middleton has ditched a 400 hat specially commissioned for the wedding and plumped for another designer less than a week before the big day.The decision has left milliner Jess Collett gutted that her weeks of work will go to waste.The dusk blue hat with a double brim was designed in conjunction with a 4,500 outfit by Lindka Cierach.

'Gutted': Milliner Jess Collett said Carole, who is now keen to wear a hat by Wiltshire milliner Vivien Sheriff, hadn't contacted her directlyBut, as The Mail on Sunday revealed last week, Mrs Middleton decided at the last minute not to wear Ms Cierachs outfit.
That meant Winchester-born milliner Miss Collett, 36, lost her own commission having worked for weeks to complement the dress.

Miss Collett, whose creations have been worn by Sophie Wessex and the Duchess of York, claims Kates 56-year-old mother has made no effort to personally inform her that her work is no longer required.
Miss Collett said: She is not wearing the hat. Its gutting. Carole hasnt contacted me directly. I work closely with Lindka and I was only told through her what was happening.

Sheriff, who has orders from several wedding guests including Kates sister Pippa and Prince Harrys girlfriend Chelsy Davy. Miss Sheriff said: We have done something for Carole, too, but I wont know until the day if she will choose to wear it.Mrs Middleton, meanwhile, has been seen buying a clutch of designer frocks from an independent boutique in Hampshire whose owner has been invited to the wedding.Carole and her husband Michael were spotted in Moda Rosa in Alresford, near Winchester and are said to have discussed dresses with manager Rosie Barton-Wild.One dress is said to have been taken to a fitter for small changes. Mrs Middleton also picked out honeymoon outfits for Kate.
