Oasis revolutionise shop with iPads in changing rooms and 90 minute home delivery

For all its many benefits, the great British High Street can be a hellish place to visit.

As anyone who has spent a Saturday afternoon tramping the streets in an attempt to update their wardrobes will attest, its flaws are many.

The biggest bugbears? Overcrowded, cramped and overheated changing rooms; a lack of helpful staff on hand to exchange sizes - leaving you clinging to the curtain in your knickers desperately trying to wave someone down - and, of course, endless queues, both for changing rooms and at the tills.

Oasis have revamped their changing rooms to put digital technology at the centre of the shopping experience

Add to that the burden of shouldering your booty across town for the rest of the day, and you're facing a pretty unpleasant experience.

Now though, Oasis is spearheading the movement for change on the high street with the unveiling of its glossy new flagship store on Argyll Street, just off London's Oxford Street.

The store has been re-modelled, creatinga spacious but intimate environment that reflects a modern boutique where Oasis say their 'unique personality' can shine through.

The store has put digital technology at the heart of the shopping experience, with the goal being to 'provide the best customer service on the high street.'

To eradicate lengthy queues, a suite of mobile iPads equipped to handle transactions outnumber the tills on offer, and also allow customers to flick through the brand's online lookbook.

The store is spacious, while customers will be able to make purchases using iPads dotted around the store

The store has installed iPads in every changing room and given them to staff, from which customers can make requests for different sizes, colours or styles from the shop floor.

And if the clothes fit, the customer will be able to use the iPads to pay for their purchase there and then, bypassing the till queues.

The purchases and receipt will be sent to the customer's home address - within an incredible 90 minutes. The service is free for those spending over 100, or 9.99 for others.

The Argyll Street store will stock exclusive product includnig the 20th anniversary collection 20:Twenty

Although Oasis is the first store to offer such a service, the impressive take up they have seen indicates other stores may follow suit.

Over 20 per cent of purchases have been made through the system in the days since its launch, accounting for over 10,000 worth of product.

The new flagship is set to showcase everything that's great about the brand and promises to be more of a boutique showroom than an accessible stockroom,' Oasis said.

The clothing and accessories line will be hand selected, making them the strongest yet, the store says

Liz Evans, Managing Director of Oasis, commented: 'We're really proud to be investing in the UK high street with a brand new flagship store that we believe introduces a new kind of shopping experience.

'The growth in multi-channel - especially internet - retailing means customers are demanding more from physical stores: more excitement, outstanding service and a more personalised experience driven by new technology.

'We believe our Argyll Stre! et stror e will lead where others will follow.'
