Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger has apologised after she managed to offend Jews, gay men and intelligent women with her controversial dating advice.

The dating expert, 50, claimed on last night's Bravo's Watch What Happens Live that 'Jewish men lie' and suggested that gay men found it difficult to be monogamous.

She also said on New York Live that bright women should 'dumb down' if they want to find a man.

This evening she issued a statement expressing her remorse.

Outspoken: Patti Stanger shocked Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen last night with her comments on gay relationships and monogamy

'I am so sorry,' it read. 'I did not mean to offend anyone with my comments last night on Watch What Happens Live.'

A spokesman for Bravo has also apologised over the comments.

They told The Hollywood Reporter: 'Bravo regrets the comments expressed by Patti Stanger on Watch What Happens Live last night.

'Her comments are not representative of the networks beliefs and opinions. We apologize for the offense it caused.'

Miss Stanger sparked a storm of criticism on Twitter last night while issuing her advice to viewers of Watch What Happens Live.

But it was her comments regarding homosexual relationships that most riled show host Andy Cohen, who himself is gay.

Relationship guru: Miss Stanger claims to have a 99 per cent success rate

Miss Stanger had been explaining to a gay viewer why he should not worry about being in a long-distance relationship.

She said: 'In the gay world, there's always going to be open [relationships]. There's no curbing the gay man. You're going to be OK.'

A surprised Mr Cohen, 43, responded: 'So wait, gays can have open relationships?'

But Miss Stanger replied: 'I have tried to curb "you people."'

Refusing to let the issue lie, Mr Cohen pressed her further: 'I am a gay and am down for monogamy.'

To which Miss Stanger retorted: 'When's the last time you had a boyfriend?'

Adding further insult to many viewers, the dating guru, who claims to have a 99 per cent success rate, told another caller that 'Jewish men lie.'

Her controversial comments follow an appearance on New York Live in which she advised intelligent women to 'dumb down'.

She said: '[Men] don't like [smart women] before they are married. You've got to dumb it down a little because men are not that bright.'

Miss Stanger, who is currently single after splitting from her fiance of six years last year, regularly causes upset with her advice.

Earlier this year she said that curly-haired women should always straighten their hair.

She told Today.com: 'Silky Asian hair has been in for the last 100 years, probably for the history of style. It signifies opulent wealth and sophistication.

Controversial: Miss Stanger has also advised intelligent women to 'dumb down'

'Men who are wealthy like straight hair, they like to run their hands throughit, not get tangled in there like it does with curls. And honestly, very few women have perfect curls. Unless youre Andie McDowell, the curls j! ust look messy.'

She added, rather controversially, that red hair was a dating faux pas too - much to the anger of members of her own family.

'My cousin is a redhead and she almost kicked my ass for this,' she revealed. 'The only men who like redheads are Irish.

'I cant get my millionaires to date a redhead - it has nothing to do with me. I cant make my millionaires pick what I want; Its not me; its the men. Im just the distributor.'
