The rest of the East Coast style set may be preparing for winter, but for Michelle Obama it was time to rock out her summer wardrobe as she visited her husband's birthplace of Hawaii.

The U.S. First Lady showed off a number of showstopping new additions to her wardrobe during the trip for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

Most notably, she wore Vera Wang for the first time on Saturday, much to the designer's delight.

The designer, who made the pink organza and grey faille dress especially for Mrs Obama, tweeted the news the next day.

She told her Twitter followers: 'What an honor and privilege to have dressed our beloved First Lady, Michelle Obama... Xx V.'

Other outfits also appeared to be new to the First Lady's closet. A bright yellow floral-print dress - chosen to host a luncheon for fellow world leaders' s! pouses o n Sunday - turned heads in particular.

She teamed the statement look, believed to be a tribute to Hawaii, with gold earrings by New York jeweller Miriam Salat.

A basketweave-print dress with tie-waist was a more sober choice to speak at the Hiring our Heroes job fair yesterday, while the colour navy also proved to be a winner for this trip, appearing in both her arrival outfit on Friday, and on Saturday for a trip to an organic farm.

The choice of outfits has won almost universal praise from those who follow Mrs Obama's style.

Onereader of the Mrs O fashion blog said of her fashion choices for the trip: 'So perfect, so elegant while evoking the islands.'

In the navy: Dark blue appears to be a new favourite as Mrs Obama wore the colour twice in two days - for a visit to an organic farm on Saturday (left) and for her arrival in Hawaii on Friday night (right)

Another also complimented the First Lady's sartorial references to her host.

'This dress is beautiful! Anod to Hawaii, while remaining modern and chic,' they said. 'The colors are stunningagainst her skin. I LOVE IT!!'

But the Wang creation divided opinion, with one reader slamming it as 'too sexy' and another considering it more! appropr iate for a date than a formal evening function.
